Freestyle BMX otherwise also known as Bike Stunt is actually the trick of maneuvering bicycles. Well, these bicycles are not your ordinary ones and they come with 20″ wheelbase that are originally meant for races. Started in the late 70s and the early 80s, bike stunt reached the pinnacle of its popularity in the 80s decade but was soon robbed of it in the 90s. However, this temporary decline in popularity brought to the market rider-owned bicycle companies, which gave a fresh lease of life to the bicycles.

The Bike Stunt is divided into five major genres, namely Street, Skateparks, Vert, Trails and Flatland riding.

Street riding is exactly what it sounds like, the players use anything on the street to show their skills. Be it walls, banks, rails, gaps or anything that forms an obstacle, the best thing about being a street freestyler is that there are no limits and no stopping. However, those who try BMX Street have a different bike than the other types like Park or Dirt. Firstly, they are the heaviest and strongest types of bikes for these tricks, and secondly, they have two or four stunt pegs for grinding. In fact, these features make it hard to do Park or Dirt with the same bike.

Skateparks is the name derived from the parks that are meant for skateboarders, but due to scarcity of space, the BMX bikers are forced to practice there. Hence, much of the Saktepark tricks are influenced by the tricks that skateboarders do.

In Vert riding, two players ride on a Vert ramp that consists of two ‘quarter pipes’ that face each other. It is around 10 to 13 feet high and both faces of the ramp have an extended vertical transition.

Trails consist of a series of jumps built from dirt that is usually compact mud. The trick usually consists of taking a steep jump and landing at a slightly plainer ground.

Flatland is almost a lost form of art which has seen no popularity in recent years but has a loyal fan following. Flatland is usually performed on smooth ground and the tricks are usually spinning and balancing.

Different types of tricks

The basics of the freestyling tricks have always been the same and whatever new tricks that are found are usually based on these ones.

1.	Air seems to be the most common and most preferred one. It basically consists of jumping in the air and landing with both legs on the pedal.

2.	Bunny hop- making the bike jump off the ground without actually performing a jump.

3.	Manual – where freestylers ride with the front wheel in the air, without pedaling.

4.	Fakie – It simply consists of riding backwards.

5.	Grind – Slithering down any object without using the wheels.

6.	Endo – where the bike is stopped with the front wheel and raining the back wheel in the air.

7.	Wallride – riding along a vertical wall or anything similar to it.

There are sub divisions to these tricks, but these remain to be the foundation of all freestyling BMX tricks.

If you have medical insurance, that will generally pay for any injuries you suffer while cycling within the coverage territory of your policy. The company may then subrogate, or pursue claims against, others who were at fault in the incident.

If you are a motorist as well as a bicyclist, you may be surprised to find that the Medical Payments or Personal Injury Protection coverage of your auto insurance may provide coverage to you if you are struck by a car while bicycling or walking. This coverage varies greatly around the country, so check with your insurance agent to see what coverage, if any, you have while bicycling. In some states, you may even be covered for lost wages while recovering from a covered accident, if you chose that coverage when you bought your auto insurance.

Insurance for Your Bike

Homeowners

Renters

Personal property at a secondary residence such as a vacation home has a fairly small amount of coverage — if you want property at that location to be fully insured, you need to get insurance on that location.

Document the money you’ve spent on your bike.

If your bicycle is damaged by another person, that person’s liability insurance (e.g. auto insurance if they hit you with their car, or Personal Liability coverage if they are on foot or bicycling) may cover what they owe your for the loss.

Insurance for Other People or Property

The Personal Liability coverage of your renter’s or homeowner’s insurance usually provides you with liability protection against claims caused by almost any unintentional act, including unintentional acts committed by you or your qualified family members, either on or off your premises. This Personal Liability coverage can protect you from claims for injuries or damage you cause in a bicycle accident, assuming of course that the incident was unintentional.

If you have just bought a BMX bike then it is a really good idea to try to learn some easy BMX tricks, but you should really learn on a proper course. It is quite easy to hurt yourself if you do not know what you are doing so you also need to get some proper safety equipment. It is very easy if you are not an experienced rider to fall off even doing easy BMX tricks and it can be very easy to hurt yourself. The main thing that you need to buy is a proper helmet. If you injure your head it can be very dangerous and a good helmet that is actually made for BMX riding is one of the first things that you should buy. The next things that you should buy are elbow and knee protectors. They are the most likely body parts to get injured if you fall off and you should not start to practice until you have bought them.

If you are learning at a course then you will not only get instruction on how to do the BMX tricks, you should be able to find out what is the best safety equipment to buy as well. The instructor should be able to tell the best places to buy the equipment and how much you will have to spend. There should be a local bike store that will have what you need. Even if you are just doing easy BMX tricks it is still easy to injure yourself if you do not know what you are doing.

If you cannot find any safety equipment stores near you then a good place to look is EBay. They will have a good selection but you need to know what you want before you buy. Another place to look is on the BMX websites. They often do reviews of safety equipment and you can also get some great tips on how to do some easy BMX tricks.

You could also join your local BMX club. They are great places to learn and to meet other BMX owners and riders. You can pick up some really great tips there about the best tricks for beginners and they are usually really great places for new owners to go to for advice. So if you are a new BMX owner then take time to buy all of the right safety equipment and learn some great tricks.

He provides more information on Mountain bikes, Pocket Bikes, Folding Bikes and safety equipment for easy BMX tricks that you can research in your pajamas on his website.

It’s been on my heart to write this article for some time now. This article is written to serve parents everywhere when shopping for their boy or girl’s first BMX bike!

For over 7 years I operated my own bike shop out of my parents home in Mesa, Arizona, Donnie’s Bicycle Shop, and it thrills me to no end to be able to share some key information with you!

First, let’s talk about BMX bike names and where you should or shouldn’t buy your son or daughter’s first bike. You can’t go wrong with Haro. HARO BMX has been around for so long and they keep coming up with new and innovative designs. Also, Diamond Back is trustworthy, lightweight, and again, the company is rock solid. Red-Line BMX is also highly recommended.

Mongoose is my BMX line of choice when purchased from a real bike shop that knows what they are doing. Mongoose has been making BMX bikes that kick everybody’s tails for years, and they make the most beautiful bikes! But your going to have to consult your local real bike shop owner, because you don’t want to buy from Wal-Mart or other chain store. Also, you may want to contact Mongoose directly and request a race-bike BMX catalogue only.

My first BMX bike was a bike called the JAG BMX by Mongoose, and the bike served me well for many years. If you can get ahold of one, it’s sure worth it. My first bike had a glossy cream-orange frame, with white MotoMags. I recommend Motomags. But be careful, no Motomag imitations, and there are a ton of them. The mag has to say Motomag on it.

A word about grips! Today’s BMX bikes are coming out with some of the most uncomfortable grips for the kids’ hands! Have the bike shop owner show you the array of grips available, and to me, a foam style is the best, or a really soft gel rubber is ok too. I always loved the foam grips when jumping because they absorb the shock of the fall!

Watch out for GT’s Dyno line. The frames on most of them are not as solid and if you don’t believe me, go to your neighborhood thrift store, and you’ll see a ton of GT Dyno’s. I personally would not buy my son or daughter a GT bike, unless it was one of their top of the line models. I also had a problem airborne with them upon landing, when compared to the awesome Mongoose BMX, my dad bought for me at the local bike shop in Mesa.

Buy your child’s bike from a regular bike shop. Do not buy it at Wal-Mart, Target, Costco, or Sam’s Club. These bikes carry the names Schwinn, Mongoose, and more, but let me guarantee you, they are not the real Mccoy!

That said, also watch out for high pressure bike salespeople. Believe it or not, they are out there! If they have such a good product, why do they have to pressure sale you?

Back to brand names. If you are going to buy a Schwinn, Mongoose, or other formerly well-trusted bike, deal with the company directly or a reputable bike shop in the area. You won’t find any Wal-Mart BMX bikes in your local bicycle shop!

Now, as to hardware! If you’re going to get your son or daughter a bike make sure you invest in ultra lightweight aluminum or chromoly rims. So many bikes out there are being sold with cheap rims and cranksets. It’s worth the extra one to two hundred dollars to get your child the very best components. They will last longer and your child will have one of the best and baddest BMX bikes on the block!

That said, invest in three piece aluminum cranks or one piece aluminum, titanium, or chromoly or whatever other space-shuttle type of materials they have! Don’t opt-out for regular steel cranks. Get a bike that has a lifetime or at least a twenty year frame warranty.

If you want to buy a vintage BMX bike from e-bay or a local auction, invest in the 1984 Schwinn Sting. That bike is totally bad to the bone man. Any newer versions of the Schwinn Sting should be purchased as well.

Ok, let’s talk about rims. Rims need to be light. So many BMX bikes have heavy bulky rims. Rims should be lightweight alloy. Also, you want to request sealed bearing hubs because they don’t require any maintenance, almost ever, and they make them on the best BMX bikes everywhere.

Also, trust your child. If they love the bike, it’s the bike for them. But let them know you love them enough to request upgrades on the rims, tires, and brakes!

Also, BMX bikes should have mid-range to best brakes. Get alloy again, or high dollar brakes. This is your child’s safety for goodness sakes! You know how many cheap brakes there are on BMX bikes? You don’t want to know, believe me. I’ve broken several myself over the years!

If the bike offers it, it’s ok to get the standard hub that breaks with their right leg as well, and handbrakes, double the stopping power! Also, out in Mesa, Arizona, I can’t count all the times I’ve fishtailed with my BMX bike with that feature! You may not get that on some of the higher end bikes, but on many you still will! Ask for both if they have it, the coaster brake style with handbrakes!

Invest in a mid-range helmet, that is ANSI Certified and is labeled by them. Get gloves that are of excellent quality as well. Every BMX bike should have goosekneck, handlebar, and top frame pads, bare minimum, do not let your child take the bike without them.

Frames that are welded should have beautiful thick welds that you’d want to eat off them. Don’t buy any bike with ugly looking welds. Also, watch out for over priced bikes that have beautiful welds but low componentry.

I always like to buy my BMX bikes with similar equipment too! If hubs, cranks, brakes, and so forth are all Shimano, that’s a good thing. The bike is Shimano equipped. I’d steer clear of BMX bikes that have lightweight handlebars, but heavy cranks, hubs, and are made by 10 different companies!

In conclusion, there are only a few key things to remember. Weight. Get the lowest weight rims, hubs, and components that are of the highest quality. It is ok to have a heavier frame, but don’t compromise on wheels, tires, or most of all-brakes! Buy a Haro, Diamond-Back, Red-Line, or Mongoose from a Bike Dealer, and your going to be happy! Don’t buy from the local chain stores anymore, ever! Buy direct from your local bike shop that knows BMX!

Lastly, have fun, and jump! If you can’t jump the bike, don’t buy it. The frames should be cleared for jumping! And remember, most of all, your BMX bike will be a part of your son or daughter’s life for at least 5-7 years, so go ahead, spend a couple hundred more for better components. And remember, to hit a ramp, fly up, hold the bars, kick the rear wheel out, and just hang on, feeling nothing but the air and rising above the earth, on a BMX Bike, is something your child will never ever forget and will pass on from generation to generation.

The BMX bike has enjoyed a remarkable rise to fame. Thought to have originated in southern California nearly 40 years ago and now taking its place across the world in China’s hosting of the Olympic Games is nothing short of astonishing.

BMX or bicycle motocross to give its full name has become an Olympic sport for the first time in 2008. BMX bikes first burst onto the scene in the early seventies and have grown in popularity ever since, culminating in this year’s debut appearance at the Beijing Olympic Games.

Growing interest in extreme sports generally has clearly helped this two wheeled (in particular where freestyle is concerned) success story. Video game culture has also encouraged interest with a string of BMX titles in recent years, some of which I have enjoyed playing myself. The positive sales figures from these games, in turn making some riders household names and celebrities, far beyond what could have been imagined when kids first started asking Santa Claus for a BMX at Christmas.

Relatively small and easy to manoeuvre and with a host of off road places to ride, the BMX is very versatile with both freestyle and racing versions of the sport competing to high levels pretty much world wide.

In June 2008, 45 spots were awarded to 17 nations for the Elite men category and 11 nations in the Elite women category for the Beijing Games. This year its only the racing side of BMX that the Olympics is hosting but it is probably only a matter of time as the BMX profile goes from strength to strength before the sport enjoys even more events and exposure at future Games.

Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st August 2008 were the dates all BMX fans worldwide were looking forward to as their beloved sport made its bow at the Olympics with qualifying, seeding and quarter final runs all taking place for both men and women on day one.

So it’s welcome to the Olympic Games for all things BMX. The wheels are showing no signs of slowing down, let alone falling off.

An amazing rise in popularity for the humble BMX bike as it takes its place on the Olympic rostrum

Everyone knows what a bicycle is and how to use it, but you know that a BMX bicycle is not just your run of the mill bike. What makes a BMX bike different and special when compared to any other bike in the neighborhood?

The BMX bike is one of the fastest growing bikes on the market. In the 1960’s, BMX bikes began as knock off versions of motocross motorcycles. BMX bikes were used to play in the dirt. Riders were seen jumping and racing around dirt tracks, as well as, around their neighborhoods on BMX bikes. Kids who were typically uninterested in motocross or racing wanted to get their hands on a BMX.

So, what is particularly different about the BMX that has taken the bicycle market by storm? You can identify a BMX bike from your average bike in a number of ways. Specific features of a BMX bike include standard 20 inch tires. The tread on a BMX tire is much different when compared to your average bicycle tire. A regular bike tire may have a few grooves or ridges, but a BMX tire tread has large knobs and crevices to help gain traction and maintain control in the dirt. Rough terrain would be too much to handle for an average bicycle tire, but BMX tread can get the job done.

An average bicycle frame is rather heavy when compared to the frame on a BMX bicycle. The lightweight frame sets BMX apart from other recreational bikes. The sturdy, yet lightweight, frame of the BMX can withstand shock well. The durability of the frame is necessary for riders who want to really play and the dirt.

How does BMX keep their frames so light and durable? An average bicycle frame may be made from stainless steel or another inexpensive metal. BMX frames are formed from aluminum or chrome steel. Aluminum will not rust and is extremely lightweight. These qualities help to make a BMX frame both durable and practical. This is especially important for youngsters interested in performing jumps and stunts on their bike.

BMX bicycles typically have only one gear. Unlike other sports and recreational bicycles, a single chain and no gear shift. This variation from the norm allows riders to pedal with ease in multiple directions. The ability to pedal both backwards and forwards on a BMX bike allows for easier stunts, tricks, and jumps. Can you pedal backwards up a hill on any other bike?

Padding is standard on a BMX bike. You may find padding in as many as three locations on a BMX. The crossbar between the handles, the gooseneck, and the straddle bar are common areas for BMX padding to be prevalent. Safety is of utmost concern when enjoying your BMX bike. The wide range of activities during BMX competition make the padding a necessity when it comes to safety.

Another unique safety feature found on a BMX bike is seen in the stem. Four large bolts help to increase durability and stability of the frame during rough landings. A rider may place their body weight on the handles during a stunt. For this reason, extra safety precautions must be in place.

BMX bikes are built differently from an average bicycle to meet the high demands of riders in competition. Lightweight frames and durable parts make BMX stand out from the rest. Safety features are extremely important to protect riders during stunts on uneven terrain. Noting such differences between a regular bike and a BMX, it is easy to see why BMX bikes are so popular.

BMX Parks are either made of wood or they come in concrete forms. In most cases, the parks meant for BMX riders are council supplied parks made of metal. The style of riding determines whether the parks are made of wood or concrete. Parks made of wood are apt for technical rides while concrete allows a fast flowing style. Riders who are always in look for gaps and have an aim to fly from the coping generally like the hasty style.

Parks for BMX riders – places to try out skills

In most concrete parks, you are sure to come across several bowls and pools. However, if you prefer you can even merge the two riding styles inside one particular park form. Most concrete parks for BMX riders are built outdoors for their capacity to endure years of several climactic withering and torturing. Building a concrete park is quite an expensive venture for which contributions from different sources are put together to give form to such a concrete open space.

Most commercial BMX squares are made of wood. Some of the reasons for this have been successfully listed below.

1.	Wooden parks are more easy to construct

2.	Materials required for the construction are easily available

3.	The cost of construction is comparatively less

4.	It is safer to fall on wood then on concrete. You will not be severely injured

5.	If the park is particularly meant for BMX riders, it should have steel coping, which cannot be easily damaged

Quarter pipes, spines, flat banks, wall rides, mini ramps and hips are some of the common obstacles included in the wooden parks meant for BMX riders. Irrespective of the fact that whether you are an inexperienced beginner or an experienced old hand, the parks present opportunities for riders of every level.

There are some parks specifically meant for novice and children while the others allow challenging jumps for more talented and in-art riders. These specific riding domains have provisions for more than forty jumps along with several banked turns.

Throughout the year, BMX riders are allowed to practice their skills on the park during the early hours of the day. Riders when practicing within the park should wear helmets and when juniors practice, they should be kept under the strict supervision of the seniors.

A park for the BMX riders can be both privately or public owned. If you enter a private BMX or state park, you have to pay admission fees. On the other hand, parks with no private ownership will charge you nothing. You will get to see private BMX or state parks within buildings with tall ceilings, roller rinks or warehouses.

If you are an expert BMX rider, you make sure to practice your techniques inside a state park as a means to sharpen your skills.

Some old timers still remember the day of the old “Chopper”, and elongated bike frame with high steering handles and a seat that measured about 3 feet. They where the latest fad on the street, and you where lucky if you could get a hold on one of them. Nowadays, bike designing and technology have made way for bike of the twenty first century, the BMX Bike.

The BMX Bike represent the newest generation in bike technology. Evolving from earlier bikes, the BMX bike incorporates a number of new ideas that provide for faster speeds, mobility and overall performance. The incorporation of pegs, for example, adds maneuverability and allows the rider to perform fantastic stunts. A lighter and smaller frame translates into endless possibilities for an experienced rider. Placing your feet on the pegs on the side of the bike and spinning 360 degrees, or flying off the ramp into mid air, are just some examples of what you can do with some practice.

Apparently, riding a BMX bike is a lot more fun than riding your old “stingray”, to the point where bike riding centers are commonplace in cities and towns. The BMX bike centers will carry not only the bikes, but also the protective equipment for you to ride safely. Additionally, there are indoor and outdoor ramps that feature all the amenities a bike rider is eager to use. The ramp facilities will have long stretches, winding circles with flips, fly off ramps and many others. For riders seeking maximum excitement some centers will offer a dirt path where you can race your bike at greater speeds and not kill yourself if you happen to fall.

A product of the BMX bike enthusiasm, are the world famous X-Games competition, which top in popularity all other BMX Games of its genre. These BMX games are no secret, and anyone switching the channels is likely to have come across one of their events. One of the things fans should remember, is that most of the stunts performed in these events take years of practice, and should not be tried at home without proper guidance. Those who wish to perform BMX Stunts should be aware necessary protective equipment, the endless hours of practice and that you will fall more than a few times for sure.

However, you don’t need to be a professional bike rider to have a BMX bike and draw pleasure from riding it. You can start off by performing some of the easier stunts, or just showing off in the neighborhood. As long as you are responsible enough not to get carried away, and always wear your protective equipment, there is no reason why the fun and excitement of riding a bike can’t become your own.

Enter the exciting world of free bmx games. Experience a ride with the best bmx games online at BMXgames123.com

While downhill and mountain dirt jump bikes get a lot of press these days, there is no denying that BMX bikes were extreme before people even knew to call it that. BMX stands for “bicycle motocross”. In the late 70s these little bikes were raced and jumped around tracks all over North America.

What started as dirt racing has morphed into a full on extreme sport that fills stadiums. The X-games and YouTube have opened the wild world of BMX to a whole new generation. Superstars like Matt Hoffman and Dave Mirra have taken this underground sport and given it a world wide audience.

Some of my first hardcore riding was done on a BMX bike. We would build ramps and use our bikes to jump the creek by my house. Back in the day we didn’t wear helmets so I spent some time in the hospital with concussions, so don’t forget to put on your brain bucket when out jumping.

Over the years BMX has branched in different styles of riding. For anyone wanting to jump, flip or spin on a bike, getting into BMX is the best value. With the whole bike costing less than most mountain bike forks, it’s within the reach of most people, even if your paycheck comes from a paper route.

BMX riding is broken down into a few main styles.

BMX Racing

Dirt Jumping/ Trail

Urban/Park/Vert

Flatland

While you can use a bike for more than one style, as you progress in a given style you will benefit from a more specialized bike. A dirt or trail bike is the jack of all trades. With a tire swap you can ride street, ramps and dirt. And while a little heavier than a pure race bike you can take it out to the local track and try out BMX racing.

Whether you are a kid or want to remember what it is to be one, hop on a bmx and give it a go. This is a great way for parents to get out with their kids and enjoy riding a bike again.
The sport of BMX racing is gaining popularity all over the world, especially since it was made an official Olympic sport in the summer of 2008. BMX racing is a sport that is derived from motocross racing, hence the name, bicycle motorcross (BMX). It’s been around since the 1960’s, however it wasn’t until the 1970’s when more and more kids started to mimic the Motocross legends that they looked up to, increasing the popularity of the sport.

The BMX race track is a dirt course that is made of a starting block, jumps in various places throughout the course and a finish line. Most races are ran in sprint format allowing only eight riders on the track at a time. Out of the eight riders the fastest will move onto the final race. The motos or the qualifying races give the BMX riders up to three times to get a spot in the final race. Depending on the number of riders there are in the event, there will be many mini races or heats that will filter into the last one that determines the champion.

Protective gear is an important element of BMX racing. The racers’ gear looks somewhat similar to that of Motocross racers. The competitor wears long sleeve jerseys to protect their arms from track burn in case of a fall or crash. Their legs are covered by protective heavy-duty leather racing pants. Leather gloves are also worn to prevent hand injury. Riders in official races must wear a full face helmet to protect from head and neck injuries. Knee, shin and elbow guards are worn to protect the most vulnerable bones that are likely to make contact with the ground if the rider wrecks.

The standard rim size for BMX bikes 20 inches, although there are smaller and bigger sizes depending on age and height of the rider. BMX racing bikes are typically smaller than a mountain or road bike. It is this smaller size and lightweight, sturdy construction that allows the biker to fly around the course at top speed and take to the air when they hit the jumps.

BMX frames are made out of lightweight aluminum, alloy and/or cro-moly (chromium molybdenum), making them light and sturdy so they can hold up to any punishment that the rider puts it through on the track. Although BMX racing a solo sport, teams are formed by sponsors to cover the cost of the riders needs.

If you are interested in becoming a professional BMX rider you must be at least sixteen years of age. You must be confident in your riding skills and have proven yourself in the amateur classes. Once you break into the professional class you have to practice and hone your skills to stay there. BMX racing is a relatively new sport. A sport that thanks to the summer 2008 Olympics has now been seen world wide. This exposure is sure to keep the sport growing and strong. The future for BMX racing is truly limitless.
